Definitely worth sharing

Pablo's first week as a 1st grader just passed. We all had a lot of expectations and neither Gustavo nor I really had a clue as to how he'd take it (he spent half of last year complaining that Kindergarten, which he had to do all over again because of the school's policies about age, was boring).

It's tough, for all of us actually, to go from vacations right into the new school year, no transition period, no nothing. One day you can wake up at 9, the next you're packing lunch boxes and making breakfast at 6:15 in the morning. Ok, so the last time I got up after 8 was..... well before Pablo, but still, the stress of dealing with an alarm when it's still dark outside and the rush at such early hour to get the kid downstairs on time so he doesn't miss the bus is a bit too much for me. Sometimes I wish I could program him and not have to NEGOTIATE with him. I remember the good old days when all I could say was, "Oh, I wonder when he'll start to talk...", little did I know of what was to come!

Now the good thing (wonderful, in fact) is that 1st grade parents had their first meeting with the teachers, principal, etc. on Friday and I had a chance to stay a bit and talk to his consejera and she said the most wonderful things about him!! It felt awesome to hear about how obedient he is and how well he works. I also went through all of his books while wrapping them and I could hardly believe he had written all those numbers and letters. His handwriting is better than Gustavo's!! I must clarify though, that it's not that I ever doubted his intelligence, I always knew he was just plain lazy and had a bit of our "rebel soul" in him. I just assumed he'd gradually overcome that and become more enthusiastic about school and homework, so it was a very pleasant surprise.

ok so this is from when he went to kindergarten so you'll have to picture him a year older (with the same uniform)

On Monday I went and got him the 4th Harry Potter book as a prize and we've been reading that before he goes to sleep. We're soooo proud of him!
